Week 7

Work The topic at work is graduations. They're coming up next week, and students have a lot of questions -- most of which can be solved by reassuring them that the graduation booklet they received isn't lying to them! Some things have changed though, as the Maltese government is reevaluating its Covid policies. Because of this, the previously closed registrations for the graduations are going to be re-open once more. We've had a few people who were quite upset that they missed the original time to register, and would not be able to attend, so this resolves some situations we had earlier.  One thing I also finally got to do was archive the full-time certificates. Since I started at MCAST, we'd been sending reminders to the hundreds of students who had not yet picked theirs up. As the numbers thinned out, it became obvious that a good number of them simply would not come. So we've now finally stopped keeping them ready at hand, and started to file them. This required

Work There isn't much to say about work. I mostly do the same kind of tasks, just more elaborate, and with me being more involved. I've reached the point where I feel like I'm a part of the office, and there are things I'm capable of doing and am asked to do. It's nice, and as with all work that involved people, there's always something interesting happening, but I can't out the interesting stories on a blog! It's just nice feeling comfortable and finally being able to work independently. The only reason I would have to transfer someone now, is because they're legitimately meant to speak to someone else. Anything else, I can handle on my own. Every once in a while, someone insists on speaking in Maltese; but once I ask them to at least tell me the topic so I can transfer them, they end up solving every question with me. Free-time There's even less to say about free-time this week. I think I neglected to mention early on, that my classmate and I a

Work Work is interesting. Learning the processes themselves hasn't been difficult, but having the knowledge to know where to go, where to look and which resources to use, are. I've picked up a lot though, and it's nice feeling successful. I've started to know my way around the courses we offer, so I can now advise people accurately on the phone. I've started to learn about international students, course dates and fees, registration processes, the different departments and what they do. I have a lot of resources now; schedules, contact lists, course lists. I've worked my way through the MCAST websites, as well as the government websites relevant to us because of programs handled by the Ministry of Education. I've learned about the Malta Qualifications Framework, which handles foreign accreditations to correspond to the European Qualification Frameworks. I can advise people on part-time courses, so I don't have to transfer them to the part-time course depa

Week 4 marked my last week at the hostel. At this point, I'd like to say that I'm very happy things worked out this way. Had circumstances not forced me to spend my first 3 weeks in a hostel, I would not have even considered it. However I now see, that this genuinely enrichened by experience. Having other people around me - even those who also went to work - really made me make the most of my free time. Even in such a small span of time, I still made friends to keep. Work For the work itself, I'm now comfortable handling the full-time certificates, as well as processing the payment for reprints. I've also prepared more certificates to be sent by post, including notifying all of the people involved. I still don't have a complete handle on the processes and organization, so I do have to ask for help more than I'd like to. However, work this week was cut tragically short. On Wednesday morning I arrived at my office, to be greeted by someone sitting outside. Someone
